Homelessness is a continuing problem in Victoria (O'Sullivan 2017). There is also insufficient public housing and community housing (including affordable housing), together which we may call social housing. Moreover, serious questions remain about current government social housing policy in Victoria. How, therefore, do we do better? In-Home Display Technology Pilot (Free trial)

The City of Melbourne and Untapped Energy are working together to run an energy usage pilot project within households in the municipality. Untapped Energy is a business formed and run by university students.  This pilot program provides Untapped Energy staff with the opportunity to use their technical skills while providing City of Melbourne residents with a valuable service. The pilot program involves arranging for In-Home Display (IHD) devices to be placed inside residential households.  The devices display real-time electricity consumption data for the household.  This pilot program seeks to understand what impact access to real-time data has on household electricity

Invitation to the Health and Homelessness Community Forum

A community forum to discuss Health and Homelessness will be held on Wednesday 1st May in The Meeting Room at the North Melbourne Town Hall.  Registration is from 9.30am, the forum is from 10am-12pm with refreshments afterwards.  Adam Bandt, Federal MP for Melbourne, and Jennifer Kanis, State MP for Melbourne will be two of many speakers on the day.  The full invitation can be seen here.

Woolworths development proposal – Canning St, Vaughan Terrace, Macaulay Road

 A $110 million North Melbourne development  proposed by supermarket giant Woolworths. [mappress mapid="4"] The plans include two residential towers of 16 and 10 storeys, a supermarket of over 4000 m2 and an attached bottle shop.  Also include are 9 specialty shops and a restaurant and 645 car parking spaces, about evenly divided between the residents and the supermarket. The Association is very concerned about the precedent that this proposal establishes for this area of North Melbourne.  Being over 25000 m2, it is to be decided by the the Minister of Planning.  The Council will make a representation to the Minister

Agenda for June 2011 general meeting: Structure Plan briefing.

The Association has arranged for David Mayes and the Strategic Planning Team from the City of Melbourne to brief members and other interested residents on the contents of the two structure plans that affect our area.  These are the City North Structure Plan and the Arden Macaulay Structure Plan.  The meeting will be held at the Library at 7.30pm on June 21 with general business until 8.00pm when we can move into the larger upstairs library space for the briefing on the Structure Plans. Meet the Candidates.

A very successful event was held in the Supper Room of the North Melbounrne Town Hall on Tuesday night.  All seven candidates were in attendance  and most questions were responded to by all.  The attendance was around 150, which was anticipated by the Association which negotiated the larger space than the upstairs meeting room.  We had the usual interjectors but there were some outstanding questions from a broad ranging audience, including many from Kensington.
