Review of Proposed Local Government (Electoral) Regulations 2016

The NWMA has been one of the most prominent campaigners for the reform of the electoral system at the Melbourne City Council. Whilst the Victorian Government just loves the compliant Council and refuses to undertake any significant legislative change to restore democracy, the Local Government Minister has used her power to change the regulations. The Minister has now proposed some changes and here is the Minister’s discussion paper and our response for your information. AGM 2016

The 2016 NWMA Annual General Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 19 April 2016, 7.15pm for 7.30pm start in the Dewey Common Room Bastow Institute, 601 Queensberry Street, North Melbourne (enter off Union Street on the west side of the building). We encourage all members and supporters to attend and to consider nominating for the Committee. A nomination form is included below as is a membership renewal form. If you are a financial member of the Association you are eligible to vote at the Annual General Meeting and you can pay your membership renewal or join the Association on the night.

Melbourne Metro Rail Project concerns

At last Tuesday’s monthly meeting of the Association, a number of concerned residents attended to raise the above issue. The Association has also been approached by other residents and property owners regarding the Melbourne Metro Rail Project and advice has been provided. Documentation has also been circulated by the Association when it has been provided to us by the Authority. It is clear that many residents and property owners are concerned about the impact of this project on our community, given the uncertainty of significant aspects of the project, such as the tunnel alignment and depth.
